PORFIRIATO
The Porfiriato (1876–1911) refers to the long rule of Porfirio Díaz, who modernized Mexico’s economy by building railroads and encouraging industry, but at the cost of inequality and the suppression of dissent. While the country became more prosperous, many Mexicans, especially the poor, suffered under Díaz’s strict control, which eventually led to revolution.

Porfiriato Edition – “Through the Murals”
This project explores the Porfiriato through the mural walls of Palacio de Bellas Artes. Students investigate the historical meaning behind each mural, analyze the artist’s perspective, and connect it to the values and tensions of the Porfiriato. Teams create a 4–6 minute video that includes both academic analysis and a 2-minute vlog filmed during their museum visit.
