COLONIAL MEXICO

From 1521 to 1821, Mexico was ruled by Spain after the Spanish Conquest of the Aztec Empire. During this period, the Spanish introduced Catholicism, built colonial towns, and created a new social structure. Indigenous people suffered greatly, but a blend of Spanish and native cultures also began to form the Mexico we know today.
